Thug Violence: NECO postpones examinations

The National Examination Council (NECO) on Sunday announced an indefinite postponement of this year’s ongoing Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination.

The board of NECO had earlier rescheduled exam dates for some subjects as a result of nationwide #EndSARS protest.

NECO spokesman Azeez Sani in a statement on Sunday said all exams have been postponed indefinitely due to prevailing security challenges across the country, resulting in some states declaring curfew.

“The board noted that due to these security challenges, Mr. Sani said. “Some state governments imposed curfew and closed schools in order to safeguard lives and property. It has become difficult for the Council to move examination materials across the country.”

Mr. Sani said this year’s examination will continue as soon as “normalcy returns”, adding that the postponement of examination is to also esure exam integrity.

“While regretting any inconveniences this postponement may cause our esteemed stakeholders, the Council has however taken this decision in order to maintain the integrity and security of its examination procedures for seamless conduct of the Council’s examination,” Mr. Sani said.

#EndSARS protest disrupted socio-economic activities across the country as protesters demanded an end to police brutality.

The shooting of protesters at Lekki Toll Gate triggered chaos in Lagos State as hoodlums attacked and looted private and public businesses.
