How Did Patrick Torrey Die?

Patrick Torrey’s death was officially announced on The LAB basketball club’s FaceBook Page, the statement reads,

Today is a very sad day for the Pekin Basketball family. We mourn the loss of Patrick Torrey who passed away this morning.

Patrick was currently playing in his final season at St. Ambrose University and was a member of Pekin’s unforgettable regional championship team in 2019.

I had the honor of coaching Patrick at PCHS and he was always someone who made coming to the gym something worth looking forward to. He had a smile that could light up any room and always knew how to make us laugh.

When you coach high school kids, you watch them grow up. They turn from boys into young men in front of your eyes.
I’ll never forget the work he put in during his senior season at Pekin. It took him to places he didn’t even know he was capable of. It was a joy to watch it all transpire when the work started to pay off. He certainly enjoyed the journey and his time in the gym with his teammates.

Patrick was amazing with the children of our coaching staff, they all loved him. He was the gentle giant they all looked up to both literally and figuratively. He was larger than life hero to my son.

Our thoughts are with the Torrey family as well as Patrick’s friends and teammates during this difficult time.

We will miss you so much, Patrick. Rest easy, #40. -Coach Kevin
