Born on August 17, 1979, Waldron spent his childhood in Carver, Oregon, a small town near Portland. Growing up, he was a devoted fan of the Portland Trail Blazers and the Oregon Ducks. He attended Clackamas Elementary, which has since closed down, and later pursued his education at La Salle High School in Portland. After a year at Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, Waldron played college football as a tight end and long snapper at Tufts University from 1999 to 2002.

Shane Waldron began his coaching career with the New England Patriots in 2002, initially serving as an operations intern. He later became an operations assistant in 2004, handling special teams quality control duties and overseeing weekly game plans.

Following Patriots offensive coordinator Charlie Weis, Waldron joined the University of Notre Dame as a graduate assistant from 2005 to 2007.

Rejoining the New England Patriots in 2008, Waldron worked under head coach Bill Belichick as an offensive quality control coach. He was subsequently promoted to tight ends coach for the 2009 season.

After leaving the Patriots, Waldron joined the Hartford Colonials of the United Football League as their wide receivers coach in 2010.

Waldron spent 2011 at the Buckingham Browne & Nichols School before moving to the University of Massachusetts. He served as the recruiting coordinator and tight ends coach from 2012 to 2013 and was later promoted to offensive line coach from 2014 to 2015. In 2016, Waldron joined the Washington Redskins as an offensive quality control coach.

Hired as the tight ends coach for the Los Angeles Rams on February 2, 2017, Waldron was later named passing game coordinator on January 30, 2018, following Matt LaFleur’s departure. He assumed the role of quarterbacks coach in 2019 after Zac Taylor became the head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals.

On January 26, 2021, Shane Waldron was appointed as the offensive coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks under head coach Pete Carroll, succeeding Brian Schottenheimer. His hiring was reportedly influenced by Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, who valued Waldron’s experience on Sean McVay’s coaching staff and his familiarity with McVay’s offensive system.
