Kamaru Usman, Nigerian martial artist, 1.83m tall, was born in Nigeria, but left Benin City for Arlington in Texas as a young child when his family migrated to the US. Many years later, he is proud of his nickname.

Early life and debut

Born in Nigeria, Usman and his family immigrated to the United States of America when he was just 8-years-old. In his high school wrestling career, Usman accumulated an excellent record of 53-3 in amateur wrestling. His wrestling career continued as he was able to help his college win its first-ever overall team title in 2008, and during his college life, he earned NCAA Division II All-American during all three years. Usman made his debut in the world of Mixed Martial Arts after training and fought in 5 regional fight promotions before coming to The Ultimate Fighter of UFC.

The Nigerian Nightmare revealed that his father, Muhammed Usman, served a 15-year sentence in a federal penitentiary. However, Kamaru believes his father to be innocent of every single one of the charges.

Muhammed Usman came to the States in the year 1989 and started running a pair of ambulance companies- Royal Ambulance (established in 2003) and First Choice EMS (established in 2005). His entire business ran successfully with the help of his managers.
