In Ibadan, 3 Friends ‘Beat’ Man To Death

A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Iyaganku, Oyo State on Thursday ordered that three friends, who allegedly beat a man to death, be remanded in a correctional facility, pending legal advice.

The police charged Augustine Andy, 42; Johnson Adegwu , 21, and a 17-year-old with two counts of conspiracy and culpable homicide.

Chief Magistrate Emmanuel Idowu who did not take their plea for want of jurisdiction ordered they be remanded in the Nigerian Correctional Service facility in Agodi, Oyo State.

Idowu ordered the police to transfers the case file to the office of the Oyo State Ministry of Justice for legal advice.

He adjourned the matter until May 28, for mention.

The prosecution counsel, ASP Amos Adewale told the court that Augustine , Johnson and the minor, beat one Haruna Shuaib, 30, to death.

Adewale alleged that they committed the offence on Feb. 24, at about 2 p.m. in Ijaye Farm settlement, Moniya, Ibadan.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Section 316 and is punishable under sections 319 and 324 of the Criminal Code Cap 38, Vol. II , Laws of Oyo State 2000.
