Before retiring in 2012 and joining Popovich’s staff in San Antonio, the Portland, Oregon native played 316 games for the Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks, Portland Trail Blazers, Sacramento Kings, and Spurs, averaging 5.2 points and 2.9 rebounds per game.

He was a member of the Spurs for seven seasons, including the 2013-14 season when they won the NBA championship.

On Wednesday, the Celtics were allegedly nearing an agreement to hire longtime NBA assistant coach Ime Udoka as the team’s new head coach, and ESPN’s Jay Williams seemed to weigh in, complimenting Udoka.

Williams referred to Udoka as “one talented person who has paid his dues” and the “first head coach of color for the Celtics” in a since-deleted post.
