Dawn Commission Explains How Operation Amotekun Will Operate

The Coordinator of the newly launched Security Network for Western Nigeria, code-named Operation Amotekun at the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN Commission), Prince Adetayo Adeleke-Adedoyin has said that contrary to the rumour going around, local operatives of Operation Amotekun will not bear arms.

It will be recalled that the Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Security Matters, CP Fatai Owoseni(rtd) had said while featuring on a live television programme on Friday that the Personnels of Operation Amotekun will bear arms.

But speaking on BOTTOMLINE, a Weekly political programme on IBR 92.5fm Ibadan, monitored by InsideOyo.com, Prince Adeleke Adedoyin said it is only the conventional Security Operatives in the Operation that will bear arms.

“The Operatives of Amotekun will not bear arms except Police Operatives and other Security Operatives among them that will carry arms. It is also worth of note that these people will be trained by the established Security agencies”.

“It is high time we began to see issue of Security beyond arms and vehicles”.

According to him, it is the various state in the region that will determine the pay and numerical strenght of members of the initiative that will operate in their state.

He assured members of the public that the security initiative will not be a burden to them as there will be adequate checks on their activities.

He denied the allegation that the Presidency is wary of this move adding that the seat of Power can summon any Governor at any time and as such, meanings should not be read to the purported invitation of the Governors by the Presidency over the matter.

Prince Adeleke reiterated that what should be of concern to every reasonable sons and daughters of Oduduwa at this time, is how to stem the tide of crome ravaging the South-West region.
