Luka Dončić first opened his eyes in Ljubljana, Slovenia on February 28, 1999. He is the son of Mirjam Poterbin, an owner of beauty salons and Saša Dončić, a basketball coach and former player.

He made his academy's senior team debut at age 16, becoming the club's youngest player in their history. His time in Madrid was a success, leading them to the 2018 EuroLeague title, winning the EuroLeague MVP and the Final Four MVP.
