4 Ways To Teach Your Kids About Easter

The Easter celebration is rich in every context. The memories of Easter are triggered by the crucifix of Jesus and it is a good time to teach our children the fantastically true story of the death, resurrection and the ascension of Jesus Christ to glory.

Here are three simple, but memorable, ways to help our children catch the Easter story. And when they catch it, they will completely understand the essence of the Easter celebration.

1. Watch a Movie Together – a marvellous way to start a timely conversation is watching a movie that illustrates the truth about Easter. A lot of stories are available, just choose one that suits the age bracket of your child. A movie like “The Passion of Christ” could be appropriate for this. And in the course of watching the movie, start a conversation with your child. I can bet that your child will listen to everything that you have to say.

2. Attend a Good Friday service or event: Well, as a parent, make the Good Friday services meaningful in the life of your child. Take your child to the Good Friday service. The service is an opportunity to teach your child about the wonder of the cross and the importance of Christ’s sacrifice.

3. Share the Good Gospel of Jesus – Your children are never too young to hear that “Jesus died to save us.” Of course, the way you share this truth needs to be age appropriate. For instance, tell the biblical Easter story using simple objects such as 30 coins, a large nail, and a small wooden cross as visuals to keep their attention.

4. Experience the Easter Sunrise – Like the women who went to the tomb at first ray of the light, be up and ready to greet the first light of Sunday morning. You can do this at an official sunrise service or in your own backyard. Friday was sombre. Sunday is a celebration!
