Burd went to Cheltenham High School. He described himself as “I was a pussy. I was really awkward looking. I wasn’t getting any girls at all, but I was very class-clownish and I got good grades.”

After high school, he enrolled to the University of Richmond and met fellow rapper Dave East who was also a 2016 XXL Freshman. He graduated summa cum laude in 2010.

Burd relocated to San Francisco, California after college taking a job as an account management at the advertising agency Goodby, Silverstein & Partners. The company later transferred him to their creative department after reimagining his monthly progress report as a rap video.

He officially began is rap career in 2013. He created his songs which were later released as a mixtape. Initially, he rapped as a means to draw attention of viewers to boost his comedy career.

After gaining recognition, he went on to release “Ex-Boyfriend” which became a success and he started earning more prominence in the music industry. The song garnered over a million views on YouTube in 24 hours.

After the success of Ex-Boyfriend, he went for his first concert at the Theatre of Living Arts in Philadelphia, PA. He dropped his first studio debut album, Professional Rapper on July 31, 2015.
