Brymo Early Life and Education

Brymo was raised in Okokomaiko, Ojo, Lagos State, Nigeria, but comes from a diverse background – his father, an Awori carpenter, and his mother, an Egun petty trader.

Being his parents’ only child, Brymo grew up in a multi-faith household, mastering the recitation of the entire Qur’an through enrollment in an Islamic School. His educational journey included attending Aganju Aka Primary School and later enrolling at Japual Primary School.

Initially drawn to a football career after completing secondary school, Ashimi recorded his first song titled “Future” in 1999 while still in secondary school.

In 2002, he co-founded a group called The Aliens with friends, active from 2004 to 2005 before disbanding. The inspiration to pursue music came from his mother’s fuji song renditions.

Ashimi secured admission to Lagos State University (LASU), studying zoology. However, after completing his second year, he decided to leave and follow his passion for a career in music.

Brymo Career

Brymo released his debut album, “Brymstone,” in 2007, influenced by R&B and inspired by artists like R. Kelly and the Backstreet Boys.

Despite facing management challenges, the album sold over 2,000 copies within six months. He gained prominence with the hit single “Oleku” in 2011 and signed with Chocolate City in 2010.

In 2012, Brymo released his second album, “The Son of a Kapenta,” featuring notable tracks like “Ara” and “Good Morning.”

His third album, “Merchants, Dealers & Slaves,” dropped in 2013, earning positive reviews. In 2014, he released “Tabula Rasa,” expressing a fusion of African folk and popular music.

Brymo’s career encountered legal disputes with Chocolate City, resulting in a departure in 2013. Despite an interim injunction, he released his third album and later resolved the matter in 2014, continuing his successful musical journey.
