Josephine Okui Okwakol Biography: President Yoweri Museveni has re-appointed CPA Josephine Okui Okwakol to retain her position in the Board of the Bank of Uganda.

Okui appeared before Parliament’s Committee on Appointments on Wednesday.

The Committee Chairman, Thomas Tayebwa confirmed Okui’s nomination.

Josephine Okui Okwakol Profile

A member of the previous Bank of Uganda board, since February 2018, Okui is a certified public accountant and a practitioner at Rona and Partners.

She is also the chief finance officer at Bujagali Energy Ltd, a position held since November 2014.

According to the Institute of Certified and Public Accountants (ICPA), Okui has over 20 years of experience in finance, audit, treasury management, risk management, general management and board governance.

She has served on several boards and in different roles, including board chairperson and vice-president of ICPAU and contributed to the strategic development of those organizations.

Okui served as the chief financial officer and head of finance at ATC Ghana Ltd from May 2012 to August 2014.

She was the finance director at Eskom Uganda Limited from July 2008 until May 2012 and financial controller at Standard Chartered Bank Uganda from January 2008 to June 2008.

Okui served as corporate treasurer from 2004 to 2006, and thereafter as financial controller in 2007 at Shell Uganda Ltd (now Vivo Energy).

She also served as the area auditor for eastern Africa at the British American Tobacco from 2001 to 2004; an internal auditor at the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) from 1996 to 2000 and the same role at the National Water and Sewerage Corporation from 1994 to 1996.

She has over 20 years of experience in senior finance, audit, treasury, risk management and general management experience.

Her experience ranges from working for the power and energy sector, oil and gas, pensions, financial services, multinational Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG), real estate, telecommunications industries and Government parastatals.

Okui has extensive work travel within Africa (working in Uganda, Kenya, DRC, Zambia, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Rwanda, South Africa and Ghana) and significantly networked with top-level managers, Government officials who are high-level decision-makers and industry stakeholders.

She holds an MBA of the University of Liverpool and a Bachelor of Commerce of Makerere University.

She is a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors Inc. Uganda (since 2008); Institute of Internal Auditors Inc. US (since 2001); ICPAU (since 2000).

Okui is also a member and fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants UK [ACCA] (since 2000/2005).
