Super Eight Playoff: NNL Requests Match Official Sanctioned

The Nigeria National League has urged the Nigeria Referees Association to review the performance of Akachukwu Igwebuike during the Super Eight promotion playoff.

Igwebuike officiated the NNL Super Eight Northern Conference final group encounter involving DMD versus EFCC at the Augustine Okocha Stadium Ogwashi-Uku on Wednesday.

The match official was criticised for giving questionable calls and issuing several yellow cards which gave undue advantage to one of the teams.

Igwebuike was also said to have awarded an alleged dubious penalty which was later ballooned over the bar by DMD.

The NNL urged the leadership of the NRA to reassess the conducts of the match official on the pitch and the roles played before, during and after the match.

The NNL Head of Operations, Mr Emmanuel Adesanya believes that proper appraisal of the conducts of the referees will go a long way in checking the insinuations making the rounds on the match umpires.

Other alleged erring match officials are Ayodeji Adebiyi, Charway Wilfred, both Assistant referees and Promise Amadi who was the 4th official.
