This is the mammoth cobra that is so enormous that the internet thinks it is fake, but a snake expert has insisted the giant slithery beast is real.

The snake was captured on the island of Borneo, Indonesia by a farmer who said he captured it because it was roaming round the streets and people’s home, freaking out the locals in broad daylight.

The man, Made Dwi Sudarmawan, then took several snaps with the highly venomous reptile before releasing it back into the wild and “away from settlements”.

In one image, the snake looms looks at the camera closer than its human handler making it seem even more massive and as if its head is actually bigger than the man’s.

Made said in his post, which was shared more than 20,000 times, that the snake is a king cobra.

Sceptics of the snake’s gargantuan size asked Head of Herpetology at the LIPI Biology Research Center in Indonesia, Amir Hamidy, whether the pictures had been manipulated, and he said probably not.

Made added: ”The snake’s photographs were not intended to be a viral, but we were securing the snake because it was roaming around residential areas, causing the residents to be restless, and the plan was for the snake to be released into the wild again away from the settlement.

He later posted a picture on Facebook of him and his pals letting the snake go.

King cobras are the world’s longest venomous snake and their bite can be fatal to humans and even larger animals.
