Hugo Fernández’s move to Ewood Park two years prior sparked talks between the two clubs that resulted in a deal allowing UE Cornellà players to go on trial with Blackburn Rovers.

He advanced through the club’s academy before committing to a professional deal on February 26, 2014. During the first half of the 2014–15 season, Raya spent four months on loan at Conference Premier club Southport, where he made 24 appearances and acquired his first senior experience.

He made two late-season Championship appearances upon his return to Ewood Park, and in April 2015, he agreed to a new three-year contract.

Raya was Rovers’ backup goalkeeper behind Jason Steele despite only making 13 appearances in each of the 2015–16 and 2016–17 seasons, and he was a regular in the matchday squad.
