Renowned Nigerian Filmmaker and “Shanty Town” Creator, Dimeji Ajibola, Passes Away

Dimeji Ajibola, the acclaimed Nigerian filmmaker celebrated for his work on the hit series Shanty Town, has passed away. His colleague, Samuel Olatunji, confirmed the news, revealing that Ajibola died today after a prolonged struggle with an undisclosed illness.

Ajibola’s extensive career included achievements across film, animation, visual effects, virtual worlds, and interactive media. His educational journey was equally diverse, with studies in filmmaking and cinematography at the New York Film Academy (Universal Studios), advanced character animation at Animation Mentor in San Francisco, and visual effects at VFXLearning.

In 2012, Ajibola made history with Hoodrush, Nigeria’s first urban musical film, setting a milestone in the country’s film industry.
