Rainstorm kills 1, destroys 100 houses in Buhari’s hometown

One person died while over 100 houses were damaged in Daura, hometown of President Muhammadu Buhari in Katsina State, after heavy rainstorm on Sunday.

Daily Post reports that some of the affected areas within Daura include: GRA, Dunu, Tsame and Kalgo.

The Director of the Local Education and Social Services, Abubakar Mashi, who conducted officials of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) round the affected areas yesterday, described the damage cause by the rain that began around 3:30pm as huge.

Mashi, who spoke on behalf of the chairman of Daura council, said local officials were working with the emergency committee to ascertain the level of damages and compile a comprehensive report to the government.

He urged the victims to consider the incident as an inevitable act of God, saying “we are working towards providing temporary relief to you”.

The lawmaker representing Daura in the House of Assembly, Nasir Yahaya, promised to liaise with relevant government agencies to assist the victims.

Yahaya promised to shoulder the medical bills of the injured.

The Executive Secretary of SEMA, Aminu Waziri, assured the people that the issue would be handled with utmost urgency.
