PDP Claims Delta State As Okowa Is Re-elected Governor

According to INEC, the People Democratic Party won the governorship election in Delta state.

Ifeanyi Okowa has been declared winner of the Delta State Governorship elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC).

Announcing the results Monday in Asaba, State Returning Officer, Prof Seth Accra-Jaja said the candidate of the PDP polled 925,271 votes to defeat his closest rival Great Ogboru of the APC who scored 215,938 votes.

According to Prof Accra-Jaja, the number of registered voters is 2,831,205 while the number of accredited voters is 1,188,784.

He said voided votes are 24,147 votes, adding that valid votes cast stands at 1,154,188 votes.

The State Returning Officer said the total number of votes cast stands at 1,178,335 votes.

The indicate that the ruling People’s Democratic Party won in 23 local government areas spread across the three senatorial districts while the APC won two local government areas.

The APC won in Ughelli North and Ethiope East LGAs.

But the APC has rejected the results announced, stressing that the elections were marred by massive vote rigging and non- compliance with the electoral law.

APC State agent, Prof Festus Arunaye said, ” I reject the votes as announced because right from the ward level to the local government collation centre there was gross mayhem, violence which has resulted in deaths. The elections were conducted in gross violation of the electoral laws”.

He said his party will seek legal redress to claim the mandate given by the people of Delta State.

PDP State Chairmen, Mr. Kingsley Esiso expressed happiness over the PDP’s victory describing it as a victory for Deltans.
