Osun 2018 Election: Lawmaker commends INEC, electorate over peaceful conduct

Rep . Oluwole Oke , a member representing Obokun /Oriade Federal Constituency ( PDP-Osun) in the House of Representatives , has commended the electorate and the Independent National Electoral Commission for the peaceful conduct of the Osun State governorship election .

Oke made the commendation in a telephone interview with the
News Agency of Nigeria on Saturday in Abuja .

He said that with the peaceful conduct of the poll observed , there was hope for the 2019 general elections .

“ The election is peaceful , calm, and there is very massive turnout . So , as I speak and as at this point in time , honestly if it goes through like this to the end , then we have hope for this country.

“ So far so good, it’ s been peaceful and thorough .

“ The Independent National Electoral Committee Ad hoc staff, the security personnel have been wonderful particularly in my Local Government , Obokun , ward 7, unit 10, it is been peaceful and calm.

“ But I got a report that card reader machines were not functioning well in few units and we have escalated it to the attention of INEC officials and I am sure it is taken care off already, ’’Oke said .

In appraising the effort of the INEC, the lawmaker said , “ at this point INEC is doing well , kudos to them . ’’

The lawmaker , therefore , wished the Peoples Democratic Party governorship aspirant success in the election .

NAN reports that a heavy security cordon was thrown on the state with massive deployment of policemen and other security personnel including soldiers who were sighted on the outskirts of the state capital.

NAN also reports that there are 3, 010 Polling Units and 755 Polling Points spread across the three senatorial districts and 30 local governments areas of the state.

Although INEC registered a total of 1, 682, 495 voters, some 400, 000 Permanent Voters Cards remained uncollected as at Friday.

NAN also reports that although 48 parties are participating in the election , the frontline candidates are : Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress; Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party and Iyiola Omisore of the Social Democratic .
