Bio – Noel Hanna was a renowned Northern Irish mountain climber from Dromore in Co Down. He's best known as the Northern Irish climber who summitted Everest 10 times and one of Ireland's most successful mountaineers.

Noel Hanna died on Monday, April, 17 on his way back from Annapurna's 8,091m summit. Annapurna is situated in the Annapurna mountain range of Gandaki Province in north-central Nepal.

It is considered one of the most challenging mountains to climb due to its steep and exposed routes and the frequent risk of avalanches and landslides.

Rescuers and helicopters were busy on the mountain on Tuesday, April 18 in an effort to locate three other Indian climbers.

Record-holding Indian climber Baljeet Kaur, 28, and compatriot Arjun Vajpai, 30, were both rescued after a search lasting hours, the tourism department said. Another 34-year-old Indian climber, who fell into a crevasse on Monday, is yet to be found.

His other achievements include climbing the highest mountain on all seven continents and – alongside three Sherpas – becoming the first humans to ascend the Burke Khang peak on the Nepal-Tibet border.

Hanna had scaled the 8,091m (26,545ft) Annapurna peak on Monday, April 17, and died overnight at a camp after making his descent.

Noel Hanna lived in Dromore in Co Down, a small town about 12 miles southwest of Belfast, with his wife Lynne. It's not clear when the pair met and got married. However, they climbed Everest together in 2016.
