Nigeria Elections 2023: INEC To Cancel Kwara Polling Over Ballot Box Snatching
Malam Attahiru Madami, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Kwara state, stated that the outcome of Polling Unit 10 in Tsaragi will be invalidated due to an incident of ballot box snatching by miscreants on Saturday.
Madami explained to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday that the decision to cancel the results aligns with the regulations governing the election process.
He attributed the delay in the arrival of INEC officials and materials to certain parts of Ilorin West and subsequent disruption in the commencement of voting at the Registration Area Centre (RAC).
“It took us up to 11a.m. before will finished the distribution of logistic and immediately I knew we are starting late. I extended the time of voting until the last person on queue voted”, he said
According to the REC, ballot boxes were stolen from just one out of the 2,887 polling units in Kwara, indicating a low incidence of such incidents. Additionally, the commission did not utilize vehicles belonging to any of the political parties participating in the election to distribute materials, contrary to rumours.
