Meet Shatu Garko, Hijab-wearing Model Crowned Miss Nigeria 2021

18-year-old Shatu Garko won the 2021 Miss Nigeria beauty pageant that was held in Lagos state, on Friday night, 17 December.

The pageant took place at Landmark Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos amid glamour and glitz.

is a hijab model who loves horse riding, and is from Kano state in the North West region of Nigeria.

She was crowned as the 44th queen of the competition during the coronation ceremony.

Despite being the youngest contestant, Garko beat 17 others to become the first hijab-wearing model to wear the Miss Nigeria crown.

The new Miss Nigeria succeeded Etsanyi Tukura, a native of Taraba State, 43rd winner of the 2019 Miss Nigeria contest.

Shatu was awarded the cash prize of N10 million, a luxury apartment, a car and an ambassadorship deal.
