Mayorkun made a significant career move when he left his banking job due to inadequate pay. In February 2016, his cover video caught the eye of Davido.

Following Davido’s interest in him on Twitter and Instagram, a conversation ensued, where Davido inquired about Mayorkun’s musical talents beyond the keyboard.

Remarkably, Mayorkun received a call from Davido on the very day he drafted his resignation letter. He promptly shared some of his recorded songs with Davido, leading to his signing with Davido Music Worldwide.

The album even made it to the Billboard World Albums chart, peaking at number 15 on December 1, 2018.

In 2020, Mayorkun was among the artists scheduled to perform at the Eko Hotel and Suites Convention Center in Lagos for the 2020 Vanguard Personality Awards. This event featured other notable artists, including Tekno and Timaya.

Mayorkun embarked on a nationwide tour in 2017, performing at over 35 schools. He concluded the year with his inaugural headline concert in Lagos, known as “The Mayor of Lagos.”

The concert series continued in 2018 with shows in Ibadan, the Federal Capital Territory (Abuja), and a planned Lagos edition.

In 2018, Mayorkun and his label mate Dremo toured the UK, performing in approximately six cities. He also graced the stage alongside his label boss, Davido, at the Wireless Festival.

In 2021, at the release party of his second album, “Back In Office,” Mayorkun announced his departure from DMW during an interview with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu.

He did not offer precise details explaining the motivations behind his departure from the record label.
