Man Walks Into Osun Church During Vigil, Carts Away Bible, Cash

A 25 year-old man, Tope Dunsin has been accused of entering a Church during a vigil and stealing bible, phone and cash.

Naijaparry News reports that Dunsin, who was arraigned before Magistrate Muhibah Olatunji of an Ile-Ife Magistrate’s Court in Osun state, was later arrested after Church members raised the alarm over disappearance of their belongings.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Emmanuel Abdullahi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on November 16, 2019 around 3:50am at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Moremi, Iloro, Ile-Ife.

Abdullahi said that the defendant entered the church during the vigil and carted away hand bag, Nokia 215 handset, OAUTHC I.D. card and bunch of house key.

Dunsin was also accused of stealing one Holy Bible and cash sum of N53, 000. Items allegedly stolen by the defendant were valued N63,00 and they belonged to a Church member, Ajayi Adebimpe.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to two-count charge of preferred against him.

The Defence Counsel, Mr Bonaventure Olatoye, applied for the bail of the defendant in most liberal term and promised that his client would not abuse the bail if granted.

Magistrate Olatinji granted Dunsin bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Olatunji added that the sureties must swear to affidavit of means, resides within the court jurisdiction and that one of them must possess three years tax clearance. The matter was adjourned till March 16 for hearing.
