Koo App is an Indian micro-blogging platform. The Koo app was launched in 2020, around 10 months ago. It was developed and is owned by Aprameya Radhakrishna, and won the Aatmanirbhar App Challenge organised by the government. As per a release by AIR, “It empowers people to express their thoughts in Indian languages with a strong-knit local Indian community.”

According to Sensor Tower statistics, an analytics provider, in 2020, the Koo App saw 2.6 million installs from Indian app stores. Also, Koo gives a Yellow tick when an account is verified.

Koo happens to be a free-to-use microblogging platform, which can be downloaded from Google Play Store and Apple Store. It already enjoys more than 1 million downloads on the Google Play Store.

As of May 2021, Koo has investors including Accel Partners, Kalaari Capital, Blume Ventures, Dream Incubator, 3one4 Capital, Blume Ventures, IIFL and Mirae Assets. On 26 May 2021, Koo said in a statement that it has raised $30 million (about ₹218 crore) in Series B funding, led by Tiger Global. After raising $30 million from Tiger Global, Koo’s valuation increased, reaching over $100 million, up from about $25 million in February.

As of 5 June 2021, Koo’s official account (@कू_हिंदी) is the most-followed account on Koo with nearly Increase 32 lakh (3.2 million) followers. Koo gives a Yellow tick when an account is verified.

Koo’s logo is a yellow bird. The app allows users to type by using hashtags. Also, the “@” sign followed by a username is used for mentioning or replying to other users.

Koo had, on 4 May 2021, introduced a new feature called Talk to Type, which allows users to leverage the voice assistant to type out a post using their voice.
