Midway through the 1980s, Sorbo worked as a model for print ads and toured throughout Europe and Australia for television commercials.
He had made nearly 150 commercial appearances by the beginning of the 1990s. He starred in several well-known advertisements, including one for Jim Beam bourbon whiskey, which became famous for Sorbo’s slogan, “This ain’t Jim Beam.”
During this time, he occasionally got acting jobs, and in 1986, he made his acting debut in an episode of the soap opera Santa Barbara. This was followed by cameos in TV shows like The Commish, Murder She Wrote, and 1st & Ten.
He starred in the 1992 television film Condition: Critical, a failed pilot for the medical drama series that was never taken up.
