Ismail worked with MacLean & Company which was an an English animation studio that was filming in Malaysia at that time. Where the 1975 film Paper Tiger, directed by Ken Annakin was made, Ismail worked as a scenic artist for the studio.
He was then employed by Keretapi Tanah Melayu(KTM) until the company’s privatization in 1992. In order to make the first animation series, dubbed “Usop Sontorian,” Kamn joined Kharisma Pictures (M) Sdn Bhd in 1991 and organized and trained the first group of animators there.
The animated series was made available for public viewing on RTM’s TV1 and immediately went viral throughout Malaysia, giving the local animation industry at the time a confidence boost.
When Kamn represented the Malaysian delegation at the festival in Hiroshima, Japan, in 1996, an episode of the animated series was even screened there.
His company suffered when the financial crisis struck. In 2001, Kamn founded his own business, Quest Animations (M) Sdn. Bhd., to publish and produce his passion.
Che Nat, Kumang, Toman 1, Kumang Lagenda Sarawak, Lagenda Kinabalu, Pusaka, Pejuang, Duwi, Kiddo Science World, and Mat Kilau were a few of the animated series he had developed under his own firm.
Despite the fact that Kamn retired in 2016 due to health issues, his contributions were nonetheless appreciated. Numerous honors have been given to Mat Kilau, who has also been adapted into other media forms as comic books, augmented reality, and video games.
His other works have also received honors from the 16th Malaysian Film Festival, the Anugerah Seri Angkasa 2005, and the First International Festival of Television Productions of Islamic Countries, both of which were held in Tehran, Iran in 2003.

He was nominated as the Malaysian Animation Icon on April 1, 2018, during the Cartoonist Day awards ceremony by the Malaysia Cartoon and Comic House and Animas.
