Ede Poly Rector asks politicians in Osun to leave his students out of politics

The management of the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Osun State, denied the alleged arrest of students of the polytechnic with permanent voter’s cards (PVCs) in the state.

In a press release issued by the Polytechnic Officer of Public Relations, PRO, Mr. Sola Lawal, and signed by the Rector, Dr. John Adekolawole, it was not true that students of the polytechnic were arrested.

The statement warned politicians not to drag polytechnic students into the the game, pointing out that the institution remains neutral and would never compromise the standard.

“The attention of the management of the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, has been drawn to series of comments trending on social media as regards to the case of arrested fake voters at Alajue town in Ede South local government area.

“Much as the management of the institution believes in fundamental human right of an individual, both staff and students, in exercising their civic rights and to vote for any party of their choice, yet, it us pertinent to state that such a privilege should not be abused in any form of guise.

“All staffs and students are hereby advised to maintain decorum and refrain from any act or utterances capable of heating up the polity or tarnishing the good reputation of the institution which she has built since its inception as a dynamic, disciplined and resourceful institution.

The statement ordered the polytechnic community not to engage with any politicians in any form of nocturnal and clandestine activities, warning that the authority would not hesitate to discipline any erring officer or student who was found wanting.

The Rector called on all political parties and political gladiators to play the game according to the rules and warned them not to drag polytechnic students into politics.

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Ede North / Ede South / Egbedore / Ejigbo Federal electoral district, Mr Bamidele Salam, alleged that the students were caught on the eve of the aborted Presidential and National Assembly elections with fake voting cards.

He alleged that a serving member of the Osun State House of Assembly induced 13 students who were part of an advance team of more than 200 students from the Federal Polytechnic Ede to use a fake voter card in the presidential and national elections to be held on Saturday.

Salaam said the fake voters were allegedly lodged in the residence of one Mr Najeem Musa, who is a personal assistant to the House of Assembly member, saying that the students confessed that they were hired by the APC to use the voting cards obtained from the state of Lagos, promising that they would be paid N5,000 at the end of the election.

However, a member of the House of Assembly representing Ede South, Hon Adebisi Nurein, said he had nothing to do with the allegation and would not be bothered to respond to it. He challenged anyone with concrete evidence to come out boldly against his involvement.
