As a player, Lozano's journey to greatness began with his debut for Pumas UNAM in 1998. He quickly established himself as a valuable asset for the club and went on to play in over 160 matches with them, becoming an integral part of their success. His prowess on the field caught the attention of other prominent clubs, leading him to have spells with Tigres UANL, Cruz Azul, and Monarcas Morelia, where he continued to shine as a skilled midfielder.
Lozano's talent was not limited to club football; he also represented the Mexican national team with great pride. Earning 34 caps during his international career, he scored 12 crucial goals for his country. His contributions were felt in various high-profile tournaments, including two Copa América tournaments, the 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup, and the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Unfortunately, injuries kept him from participating in the 2006 FIFA World Cup despite being named in the provisional squad.
As Lozano's playing career drew to a close, he seamlessly transitioned into the role of a football manager. After winning the U-20 Clausura Liga MX title with Querétaro FC's U-20 team, he was promoted to the position of assistant coach for Querétaro's senior team under Víctor Manuel Vucetich. When Vucetich departed, Lozano took on the mantle of manager, leading Querétaro to victory in the 2017 Supercopa MX. However, a challenging period followed, and he parted ways with the club.
Undeterred, Lozano's managerial journey continued with the Mexico U-23 national team, where he guided the young talents to success. Under his tutelage, the team secured a third-place finish at the 2019 Toulon Tournament, and later clinched the bronze medal at the Pan American Games. The pinnacle of his tenure with the U-23s came at the 2020 Summer Olympics, where Mexico achieved a remarkable bronze medal victory against the host nation, Japan.
In 2022, Lozano was appointed as the manager of Liga MX side Necaxa, showcasing his ability to adapt to different teams and situations. Although his tenure with Necaxa had its ups and downs, he continued to demonstrate his passion and dedication to the sport.
Moreover, Lozano's skills as a manager did not go unnoticed on the international stage. Following Mexico's 3–0 loss to the United States in the 2023 CONCACAF Nations League semi-finals, he was appointed as the interim head coach of the national team for the forthcoming Gold Cup. Under his leadership, Mexico displayed exceptional performance and clinched the prestigious Gold Cup title after defeating Panama in the final.
Beyond his achievements on the field, Jaime Lozano is known for his humble and personable demeanor. The son of telenovela actors, he earned the nickname “El Actor,” which adds a touch of intriguing trivia to his football journey.
With a legacy that spans both the playing field and the managerial sidelines, Jaime Lozano continues to be an inspiration to aspiring footballers and managers in Mexico and beyond.
