IGP Orders Arrest of Afrobeat Singer, Seun Kuti For Slapping Policeman

The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba has ordered the immediate arrest of Afrobeats singer, Seun Kuti over assault of a police officer.

This was made known by Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi in a terse statement on Saturday, May 13 titled ‘Serious assault on police officer: IGP condemns act, orders immediate arrest of Seun Kuti’

A video which trended online On Saturday evening, captured Seun slapping an officer on the road after what seemed to be an accident.

The artiste’s car was bashed, so he approached the security personnel in an aggressive manner and questioned his mental state.

Seun later claimed via his Insta-story that the officer attempted to kill him and his family members.

He wrote; “He tried to kill me and my family. I have the proof but I no dey chase clout. He has apologised and I have agreed not to press charges.

“Make una mind una business make the poor guy no lose him job.”

The IGP directed the Commissioner of Police in Lagos state to arrest Seun and launch a speedy investigation into the cause of the assault.

The statement said; “The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, CFR has ordered the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command to arrest Afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti, who was captured on video assaulting a police officer in uniform.

The IGP has equally ordered a speedy and full investigation into the remote and immediate cause(s) of the assault and prosecution of the suspect accordingly.

IGP Usman Alkali Baba assures Nigerians that acts of contempt/disdain for symbols of authority will not be tolerated while offenders of such hideous crimes will be surely brought to book.”
