Russell Hammond, a former member of the Jamaica Labour Party who represented Westmoreland Central, had passed away. Hammond died at the University Hospital of the West Indies. Russell was the managing director of Hammond’s Pastry Place in Westmoreland. He was also a School Chairman. He died after battling a long illness.

Who was Russell Hammond?

Russell Hammond was a prominent businessman and philanthropist who served as Westmoreland Central’s former member of parliament for the Jamaica Labour Party.

From 1983 through 1989, Hammond served as Westmoreland’s first elected MP. Being a very active member of the Area Council, he significantly contributed to building the groundwork for the Party’s current success in the Western parishes of Westmoreland and Hanover.

Russell served Savlamar and Grange Hill for a very long time. He was a trustworthy JP, a great politician, and a very well businessman. Russell was great gentleman in savanna-la-mar Westmoreland in General. Hammond also owns a bakery. He spent his time in encouraging, advising and supporting young people who had his passion for service. Russel was a people person always had a listening ears.
