According to city authorities, Derrick Leto, Worcester sergeant, dies off-duty.

“I am heartbroken and saddened to share the off-duty passing of Derrick, Sergeant, and Diversity Officer with the Worcester Police Department”.

The circumstances surrounding the exact cause of his death were not known yet. In honor of Worcester police Sgt. Derrick, flags in Worcester will flutter at half-staff.

Sgt. Derrick Leto served as the department’s chief diversity officer. Leto, a Millbury resident who was elevated to sergeant in 2017, died Friday.

Sergeant Derrick was a Sergeant and Diversity Officer with the Worcester Police Department.

Leto participated in Worcester youth programs as a volunteer in addition to his work as a police officer. He was also a father and husband.

He plays basketball and he was also a boxer. Derrick offered hope and inspiration to many people.

He was able to make everyone in the room laugh and have a good time. Leto has a great personality, with a beautiful heart. He had a pure spirit, along with his other admirable traits.

He developed this notoriety as a result of his conduct and interactions with others. Because he wasn’t driven by self-interest, he left an impact on those around him, and that impression won’t be forgotten anytime soon. He was the kind of guy who would be helpful.

Derrick Leto Cause of Death

Sgt. Derrick cause of death was not known. “There are no words to express how difficult this loss is to the men and women of the Worcester Police Department and the entire city.”

According to a social media statement made on Friday by District 2 Councilor Candy Mero-Carlson, municipal Manager Eric Batista described Derrick as “an outstanding police officer and exceptional human being” in a letter to municipal staff.

According to Batista’s letter, the department will provide peer support and crisis intervention to Worcester police and other workers impacted by the death.

The loss of Derrick has left a huge void in the whole Worcester community.
