Luka Dončić first opened his eyes in Ljubljana, Slovenia on February 28, 1999. He is the son of Mirjam Poterbin, an owner of beauty salons and Saša Dončić, a basketball coach and former player.

He is a Slovenian but traces his ancestry from Serbia on his father’s side. In 2008, his parents had a divorce and Luka’s mother took legal guardianship and custody of him.
