Gov Tambuwal Wins Re-election In Sokoto

Peoples Democratic Party’s Aminu Tambuwal has been re-elected as the governor of Sokoto State after Saturday’s rerun election in the state.

He won with a slim margin of 342 votes.

Announcing the final results of the election, the state Returning Officer, Prof. Fatimah Mukhtar, said Tambuwal polled a total score of 512,002 votes to beat Ahmad Aliyu of the All Progressives Congress who garnered 511,660.

The Resident Electoral Officer, Prof. Sadiq Musa, had said the outcome the declaration of winner will be based on simple majority.

Mukhtar said the number of registered voters was 1,887,767, while accredited voters were 1,083,413.

Total votes cast were 1,067,994 while the number of rejected votes was 31,662.
