In a statement, the Southern African Music Rights Organization (SAMRO) expressed its condolences for the loss of Gloria Bosman, a renowned jazz vocalist, songwriter, and non-executive board member.

SAMRO Chairperson, Nicholas Maweni said,

“In the short period that she was on the Board, she added a perspective that comprised of a rich blend of insights on member aspirations and the direction that our organisation should continue to march towards.”

Gloria Bosman was a jazz, African, rock, and gospel vocalist who was born in Soweto. She was a skilled producer, composer, and presenter as well. She has had eleven nominations, including two KORA nominations, and two South African Music Awards (SAMA) wins, according to her website. According to its description, the KORA Awards honor musicians from around Africa. She won the Best Newcomer prize and received nominations for Best Modern Jazz Album and Best Female Artist at the 2001 Samas for her debut album, Tranquillity, which was released in 2001.

The following albums, Many Faces of Gloria Bosman, helped her achieve tremendous milestones including being nominated for Best Southern African Artist, Most Promising Female Artist, and Best Jazz Vocal Album at the SAMA Awards. Bosman was elected to the board of directors of the Southern African Music Rights Organisation (SAMRO) in February as its newest member.
