Genevieve Nnaji

Genevieve Nnaji was born in Mbaise in Imo State of the easter part of Nigeria on 3rd May 1979. She attended Methodist Girls College in Yaba, Lagos and later gave birth to her daughter after secondary education then later furthered at the University of Lagos for her tertiary education.

Genevieve Nnaji’s father worked as an engineer and her mother was a nursery school teacher.

She began her acting career at a very tender age of 8 in a popular television soap opera ”Ripples”. She was fully manifested in the movie industry when she turned 19 years. ”Last Party”, ”Mark Of The Beast” and ”Ijele” are still considered as some of her best movies which brought her to the limelight.

In 2002, her fame rosed from Nigeria to the rest of Africa and other European countries after she was starred in the movie ”Sharon Stone”. It was every girl child dream to become like her because it was through this that revived the Nigerian film industry and also introduced Nollywood to the world.

In recognition of her immense contribution to the Nigerian film industry, she was presented with numerous awards some of which have been Dublin, London and the United States.

Genny has a nice sense of humour and is very fashionable too. She has a clothing line called ‘St Genevieve” which aims at helping the less fortunate especially orphans.

In 2014, she was listed among the richest Nigerian by Vanguard’s Celebrity List with a net worth of N220 million from endorsement alone. She has several endorsement deals like Etisalat, Amstel Malta, Range Rover Evogue, MUD Cosmetics etc.

Oprah Winfrey referred to her as the Julia Roberts of Africa in 2009. Genny has won a lot of awards and several nominations. These are ‘Best Actress Of The Year’ at City’s People Awards and the Best Actress in a Leading Role at the 2005 Africa Magic Movie Academy Awards.
