A spokesperson from Power core has confirmed that a duck came in contact with the electricity network and activated a safety device on the network . Power core has been able to restore power to Geelong suburbs, however the duck did not survive the incident.

According to Power core’s live outage map on its website, the outage is affecting Geelong’s CBD, Newtown, South Geelong, Highton, Belmont, Wandana Heights, Marshall, Grovedale and Waurn Ponds.
The spokesperson said power was quickly restored to about 2,000 of those 7,500 customers, and crews were presently investigating the cause. Powercore will keep customers advised via its website, which states an estimated restoration time of 3pm, and the spokesperson said some customers would have their power restored before that time.
