Gabby Petito was born on March 19, 1999 in Blue Point, New York. She has six younger siblings and half-siblings.

She attended Bayport-Blue Point High School in Bayport, New York, where she met Brian Christopher Laundrie, and she graduated in 2017.

She resided in Carolina Beach, North Carolina, from September 2017 to January 2019, during which time she worked as a hostess and in the kitchen of a restaurant in Wilmington. She didn’t enroll at Cape Fear Community College despite having applied.
