Excuse Me,
The worst tremor that can be inflicted on students is cruelty.
Academic Cruelty is any type of cheating and mischievous act that occur in relation to a formal academic system,probably we could say this invidious act now seems to meet with varying degrees of approbation in the School of Engineering,Federal Polytechnic Ede.
As Attention been drawn to the recent drama in Federal Polytechnic Ede, in the school of Engineering precisely where SIWES Student’s academic pursuit went through ardent frustration and future put at stake,as students were denied access of sitting for Examination and some delayed for hour over non – Compliance with the payment of consolidated – Faculty levy and departmental levy. The Students who acknowledged that the payment of these levies is a prerequisite to Registration levied gross allegations on the School of Engineering, Federal Polytechnic Ede for academic cruelty on the part of the students who are not financially buoyant.
Reportedly alleged the Faculty of Engineering in the school of objectionable act as it was said that on several occasions cases of such is common in the School where students were gracefully pardoned to defer payment and pay the levy subsequent semester .
One of the affected students in tears, who sought for anonymity asserted to NAIJAPARY that ” At home we are not financially stable presently,even sourcing for my school fee then was taxing, but after I had strived at all ends to pay my School fee, the Engineering Faculty out of no mercy still reposed an act of wickedness on us” added that “I wasn’t given access to examination paper, which is tantamount to automatic extra year just because of Faculty levy and departmental levy and not even school fees, it’s cruel and unjust”
Similarly, the situation was worsened and made quagmire following the students assertions that “prior before now lecturers had imposed a practical manual on them threatening that if not obtained their tests score won’t be recorded or acknowledged” .
“Compassion is necessitous, not a luxury, Without which humanity cannot survive and if one show good example of compassion that’s when one can teach a child to be compassionate and to be ethical, then one can be the greatest teacher”.
Agreeably, it’s inhibitory in nature, a scenario where tenderheartedness could have been exercised (Grace to pay the consolidated levies in subsequent semester) produced cruelty, unfair and insensitive act from the faculty leaving dear Students academic pursuit in jeopardy and inhibition .
Am not a Sesquipedalian but at this locus of my pen, in deference may I remind and bring the management cognitive cognizance of this, that on aperture Student’s rights have been punctured and disregarded on the account that the Examination fee is an accompaniment in the institution School Fee and not even the Consolidated levies of the Faculty and department .
On this note I speak as an oracle for the Nigerian Students,”extra year is an inhibitor to academic life” in view of this,students extend their solicitude for a redress and beseech the ever – hearing and ever – dynamic management of great Polytechnic Ede to look critically to this unjust act with exigency , do the needful and also give the aforesaid SIWES victims of Engineering another academic hope.
