Burna Boy: I Knew I Had Become A Star When I Sold Out A Stadium In The South-East

Grammy-winning singer, Damini Ogulu popularly known as Burna Boy has revealed that he knew he had become a big artiste after a concert in 2014.

He said that was the first time he did a show in a stadium in the South-Eastern region of Nigeria and the way fans showed up in multitude made him realise he was popular.

Speaking with BBC Radio 1Xtra, Burna noted that South-East mostly like artistes from the region so it was a big deal for an outsider to be accepted by them.

The Afrobeats star said he had never seen that type of love before and he did not think it was real.

In response to a question about when he knew he was well-known, Burna said; “2014, that’s the first time I did a show in a stadium the eastern part of Nigeria.

They only like their own people, so if you’ve crossed over there and you’re not from there then you know you have popped.

I have never seen anything like that, I didn’t even think it was real (laughs) It was a real thing that could happen.”

Meanwhile, budding rapper, Odumodublvck has said that nobody in the industry helped Afrobeats singer, Burna Boy to achieve career success.

He stated this in a video response to those criticising Burna for declaring himself the best among his contemporaries.

Odumodu, who is a fan of the ‘Odogwu’ crooner said Jesus Christ paved the way for Burna and not a human being.

According to the Declan Rice hit-maker, nobody in the industry likes the Grammy winner because he does not act subservient to anybody.

He said the singer has been through a lot and he made a way for himself despite coming from a humble background.

Odumodublvck accused people in Nigeria of trying to take the glory of someone’s success while using Burna Boy as a case study.

The rapper asked people to leave Burna alone, saying that if he crowns himself the best then everyone should accept it like that.

Odumodu said; “I wake up for morning I dey see people dey talk say why Burna Boy talk say nobody pave way for am. Baba, nobody pave way for Burna Boy, na God, Jesus Christ pave way for am.

For this industry nobody like Burna Boy because that guy has the guts….2012 dem dey shxx on that guy. He is coming from the trenches, so none of you should come and say ‘I helped this guy’
