Brymo: Igbos Should Accept His Apology, He’s Sincere – Management

Olawale ‘Brymo’ Ashimi’s management has said the singer tendered a sincere apology following his comments against Igbos on Twitter.

Ngnews247.com recalls that the ‘Ara’ crooner stirred controversy when he went on a Twitter tirade against Igbos over political affiliations and differences.

Brymo had made a series of tribally motivated posts but the straw that broke the camel’s back was when he tweeted; “F**k The Ndi Igbo!! To Hell With It!!”.

This led to a petition being launched for the singer’s nomination at the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMMA) for ‘Song Writer of the Year’ category to be cancelled.

Following the development, the former Chocolate City signee went on Instagram and explained what led to his tweet.

Brymo said; “It is very important you understand that this entire fracas began with me seeing in the media that Chimamanda Adichie (popular author) refused some national honours and had picked up some traditional title in the East at home.

“And I suggested that for me, it says a lot about the Igbo presidency because that actual seat is what the region should be eyeing right now. I have clamoured for Igbo presidency in the last few years, you wouldn’t believe it.

“It will pop in your mind when you hear the news that Igbos do not actually want the presidency. I did not insult the tribe, I am sorry to anyone who it sounded as such to. I was trying to weigh into a very important matter.”

However, many people failed to accept the musician’s apology because they were of the opinion that it wasn’t genuine.

But his manager, Ortega Kakawa in an interview with The Punch, said; “Brymo has apologised to the entire Igbo on his Twitter space and Instagram live, where he addressed the fracas and miscommunications he may have caused online. His apology was not under duress but at free will in his personal space.”

“The entire management also sends heartfelt sincere apology to every Nigerian in the country and in the diaspora that may have been affected. We hope every petition signed against him is nullified in good light.”
