Stephan Bonnar Cause of Death, Net Worth, Wife, Children, Age, Family, Biography. Stephan Bonnar was born in Hammond, Indiana, and grew up in Munster, Indiana, where he graduated from Munster High School.

Bonnar had a long history in combat sports, beginning with wrestling when he was 10 years old, Tae Kwon Do when he was 12, Brazilian Jiu-jitsu when he was 22, and Boxing and Muay Thai when he was 24.

He received his black belt in Tae Kwon Do at the age of 16, and he was a two-time Golden Gloves Super Heavyweight champion. He attended Purdue University and graduated in 2000 with a degree in Sports Medicine.

Stephan Bonnar began training in Brazilian jiu-jitsu with the legendary Carlson Gracie in the summer of 1999, and received his purple belt before Carlson’s death. During his time at Carlson Gracie, he earned the nickname Robocop.

As a result, the vast majority of his fights have ended in submission. Stephan most recently trained in Brazilian jiu-jitsu with Master Sergio Penha in Las Vegas. He did, however, train in Muay Thai during several trips to Thailand.

Since the beginning of 2010, Bonnar has been training in Muay Thai at One Kick’s Gym in Las Vegas under Master One Kick Nick Blomgren.

Bonnar was awarded a six-figure UFC contract alongside Griffin after his strong performance in the Light Heavyweight finals, where he lost a unanimous decision to Forrest Griffin in a back-and-forth fight.

Following his loss to Griffin, Bonnar became a regular at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, defeating notables such as Sam Hoger, James Irvin, and Keith Jardine before succumbing to Rashad Evans via majority decision. Bonnar lost a unanimous decision to Forrest Griffin in a long-awaited rematch at UFC 62 in 2006.

On December 4, 2010, Bonnar faced Igor Pokrajac in the Ultimate Fighter 12 Finale. He won the match by unanimous decision (29–26, 29–26, and 29–26).

Bonnar was scheduled to face Karlos Vemola at UFC on Versus 5 on August 14, 2011. However, due to an injury, Bonnar was forced to withdraw from the fight and was replaced by Ronny Markes.

Following his defeat to Silva, UFC president Dana White announced Bonnar’s retirement from MMA competition on October 30, 2012.

Dana White announced that Bonnar and Griffin would be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame shortly after Griffin announced his retirement. On July 6, 2013, Bonnar and Griffin were officially inducted.

On August 27, 2014, Bellator announced that they had signed Bonnar to a multi-fight contract, effectively bringing him out of retirement. Bonnar lost a split decision to Tito Ortiz at Bellator 131 on November 15, 2014. Bonnar then retired for the second time.

On August 1, 2017, House of Glory, a New York City independent wrestling company, announced that Bonnar would be entering a wrestling ring for the first time to face Matt Riddle, another former UFC fighter and independent wrestler. However, Riddle backed out, and he was replaced by Sho Tanaka of NJPW.

On November 5, 2017, Bonnar made his Impact Wrestling debut with Moose, losing to King Mo and Bobby Lashley at Bound for Glory (2017) in Ottawa, Canada. On September 14, 2019, Bonnar lost to Moose at Impact Wrestling’s Victory Road 2019.

Bonnar was a fan of the rock band The Who, and he used their song “Eminence Front” as his UFC entrance music. Outside of competition, Bonnar has provided commentary for televised mixed martial arts programming, most notably as the WEC’s color commentator for the majority of 2010, calling 5 of the WEC’s final 7 fights. He has also appeared as an analyst on ESPN2’s MMA Live and on Fox television networks for UFC broadcasts.
