Akwa Ibom North East: PDP’s Akpan Defeats APC’s Etim At Appeal Court

The Court of Appeal sitting in Calabar on Friday declared Senator Bassey Akpan as the winner of Akwa Ibom North-East (Uyo) Senatorial District Election.

The court settled on the first issue raised by the appellant, Bassey Etim of the APC being eligibility-age declaration and place of birth and dismissed the issue against the appellant.

On the second issue, which is certificate and forgery, the court equally dismissed it as the mistake of fact did not prove intent of forgery.

The court, which is the concluding court on post-election matter as regards National Assembly elections issues, also ruled on the third issue.

The third issue is an indictment by an administrative Panel of Inquiry that the respondent, Senator Bassey Akpan is not guilty and resolved against the appellant as well.

On the fourth issue, which is the results of the election, the court ruled that it could not be controverted as the appellant could not substantiate the allegations of malpractice in the various units where elections were conducted and ruled in favour of the respondent Senator Albert.
