Ondo 2020: Jegede Vows To Unseat Akeredolu

Eyitayo Jegede, one of the prominent governorship aspirants in Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, declared on Saturday that he was set to win the October 10, 2020 governorship election if given the ticket by his party.

The standard bearer of PDP in the 2016 governorship election stated this at a meeting with some of the party’s leaders across the 18 local government areas of the state.

Emphasising on his readiness to win the election, Jegede said: “I am now an experienced sailor. If I am not ready, I will not say I am ready. We’ve gone through training and we understand the game more. Over and above all, God has said ‘Go ahead, I will be with you’.

“Now we are going to win. God has helped us to put this party together since 2016 when we lost the election. It is because we stayed back in the party to build the house and make it attractive to those who want to come to the party now.

“But we must recognise those who worked to put this party together since 2016 and ensured that the house didn’t collapse.”

Jegede noted that he had worked and still working for the development of the party both at the national and the state levels, adding that he had paid his dues in PDP.

According to him, “This one we are embarking on is God’s own project and we are going to succeed. God has empowered us and we have worked for this party both at the national and the state levels.

“I am not in the race because I want to be a candidate. We are beyond that. That didn’t freak us again. I want to be a Governor and I am prepared for the task ahead. We are talking about competence here not any sentiments.

“This is ship, boat and plane that all of us must go inside to the promise land. God has helped me to conquer greed and selfishness completely. “

The former attorney general and commissioner for justice of the state appealed to the party’s leaders to go back to their various local governments and work hard to see to his emergence as the party’s candidate at forthcoming party’s primary election.

He said: “You are part of many and majority of our people are at the local government, ward and unit levels. Go back home and preach the good news to them.

“All of us here are leaders and most of us are delegates. It is our duty to spread this because there is a bridge we have to cross before we get to the main contest.
